In this classification system, the concept of common interests functions as a standardized benchmark, enabling Aristotle to evaluate various political bodies. Other ancient thinkers also held influential views regarding common interests; the perspective of the Roman writer and statesman Cicero (106–43 B.C.), in particular, proved highly influential. In his legal writings, he asserts that the interests of the nation constitute the nation’s supreme law. Cicero refers to this common benefit as *salus populi*—a phrase that translates literally as “the safety of the people,” though it is more broadly understood by the general public as signifying “happiness” and “well-being.” Cicero further maintained that this concept lay at the heart of “republican theory,” defining the *res publica* as “the project of the people.” He also noted that “people” does not signify just any form of association, but rather “people who have accepted justice and established cooperation for the sake of common interests.” Thus, Cicero introduced a specific concept of common interests to distinguish the republic (or a state in a more general sense) from other human groups. He insisted that individuals would not merely seek to take advantage of one another, but were also bound together by an agreement regarding the principle of justice that governs their relations. Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274) developed the most influential account of common interests within the Christian tradition, drawing upon the works of Aristotle and Cicero. Aquinas argued that the pursuit of egoistic individualism and distorted, self-absorbed interests could lead to political instability and governance crises. “Autocratic politics are not directed toward the *bonum commune* (common good), but rather toward the benefit of the rulers.” Aquinas emphasized a shared understanding of the concept of justice and the interests inherent in the political sphere. However, Aquinas was concerned not only with the prosperity of a particular political society but also with humanity as a whole, viewed as part of a universal moral order. Yet, unlike the theorists of ancient Greece and Rome, he identified common interests with the principles and divine order established by God. Thus, Thomas Aquinas maintained that Christians could attain knowledge of the common good through divine revelation. In his own words: “The good within the universe is understood through the divine principle of perfection and order—the Creator and Ruler of all things.” This perspective is also evident in Aristotle’s ethical and political works. Subsequently, I explained how Thomas Aquinas addressed this subject within his philosophical and theological framework. Aristotle had raised the issue of common interests being conflated with the private interests of the powerful—rather than serving the interests of the individual citizen. This describes the system of occupation under which you currently live: through a co-opted mass media, you are made to fight perpetual wars that do not serve the interests of your own people. Aquinas identified this very same problem within the same context. Aquinas’s contribution to this debate lay in his argument that common political interests constitute a specific category of shared goods, and that these are not the only common interests that must be taken into consideration.
Trees are important life forms. We may build our home with lumber. Harvest winter wood for heat. You may have heard of Yggdrisal, the alder tree that holds up the sky. As the day becomes weak and the night extends we pray and worship this tree for the returning, rebirth of the light, the sun to return. The world tree is not over there in a special place. The tree you have has the scent of aromatic mint, sage, sweet estafiate, sharp citrus, the aromatic green. Your tree can be any branch you bring inside. As above so below, as within so outside. The same prayers and offerings are made to wild and tame trees we care for, growing outside. No one needs to kill a tree to celebrate life, a branch will do just fine. Each were arrogant to assume that common goals for the wellbeing of person, plant and place could be possible when male and female were postulated as separate entities with no interaction. There must be interaction between the sister and brother. The monsters created when living apart, through the misuse of generative function, attack and torture us today. To restore balance listen and work with one another in remedios. That is the meaning of gathering remedios. When you go to the mountain take a trusted friend from the other side with you to the mountain. To create harmony be harmonious, release and let go of things that no longer fit There is no pain no gain, so increase pain tolerance. We do not seek pain, yet for the struggle one must learn to endure pain. Pain is unavoidable. To lose those you love is painful. We seek peace. Those who take pleasure in misfortune will not triumph for long. They may call themselves by many various names. No one can hang from the tree for you. Others despite and within their intentions can not nourish us. Others can not eat for us and we can not eat for others. You must use your time to work with the people, listening to the plants, directly in place. You must decide to live, to experience, to be. You need to chew the food and swallow. It does little good to watch others eat. The body requires continuous nourishment according to the season. To turn, turn will be our delight, so by turning turning we come round right. The struggle is not a one and done forever accomplishment. At each personal biological age, infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, old age and death you have a unique set of struggles, demons to overcome, battles to begin. In preparation for each new season of the year, winter, spring, summer or autumn, there are new preparations for victories. We must reenter the struggle again, and again, and again. You can not relax in the sense of giving up the struggle for knowledge, for insight, for wet juicy green moist herbs. Down in the lowly vale living waters never fail. The green blood of plants flows in our veins. Regardless of your food, you eat the plants, that eat the sun. Green is the moistening principle of sunlight. The water of rivers and stream is the purified green of sunlight as moving breath. If you know only a few plants from the place where you live, or know only one single plant growing nearby, by sharing with brothers and sisters, in this house built with mud, earth, water and straw you have an important remedio of person, plant and place. You have the remedios from that tree, as that tree for healing the people as home, as dwelling place, as community, as neighborhood.
