Ponderosa Pine, family area, is a western pinos amarillo, yellow style pine with extremely long 5-10 inch, 12-24cm, green needles usually in bundles of 3 sometimes 2. Bark in black Jack's, or young trees is charcoal black, later the bark becoming a cinnamon golden orange system of plates, in the sun giving off a pleasant balsamic vanilla scent.
It can become a giant tree 200 ft, 65m tall, and in some areas forms archaic remnant groves, in the flat red slick rock sands, indicative of trees approaching 1000 years old in some of the areas immediately below Duck Creek in Utah, near Johnson canyon and Kanab, UT, growing in areas where Ponderosa haven't grown in 600 years surviving the great historic 100 year droughts that pushed the Anasazi out of their flat land location further and further into sheltered canyons,
as we see an exact similar pattern of drought in the 4-corners area today, with sustained high pressure circular rain shadows.

Fallugia paradoxa,
Rose family woody perennial shrub, 2nd week February 7100ft 2300m, New Mexico. In our Linnaeus binomial, named for an Italian botanist and paradoxa for its unusual for rose family, lacy feathery silky plumes, below the 5 white petal rose like flowers. Leaves are 3-7 pinnately lobed. To distinguish the similar Purushia stansbury cliff rose, also a rose family woody perennial shrub,
Fallugia seeds late summer fall, hence a few of the hypanthium fibres are visible 2nd week February, while stansbury blooms Mid to late May at the same time claret cup blooms, Joshua's birthday, on the cockscomb,
the bark of cliffrose is fibrous and shreddy and used as stuffing on baby cradleboards for absorbency, stansbury cliffrose Leaves are more aromatic, sticky and bitter astringent to taste while Fallugia are bland, and can be winter drought deciduous, the form of stansbury cliffrose is more small tree-like with thicker limbing.

Frasera speciosa Gentian Family (Gentianaceae) Cebadilla
is at the historic southernmost limit of its range in the Black range and Maderian sky islands like the Pinals and Catalinas, a drought survivor it can live for 30 years before sending a stalk. Up until the early 2000's there was enough snow to ski Mt Lemmon going back to pre-statehood, since the 1920's. Then in the 2010's the snow diminished. There was no skiing 2013–2014, 2017-2018, 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 a little bit of snow with not enough snow again this year to ski.
Plants like Frasera at the limits of their range have historic seeds in the ground but are withdrawing due to drought. Not doom posting just noticing deep soil moisture is at historic lows. Indicator plants like Frasera have retreated to a fraction of their range

The plant immediately produces saliva in the mouth with a slight numbing of the tongue. Described as a straight medicine plant, not an everyday tea or tonic herb.

"You have seen this blowing up, going viral, We us as a people. We are noticing, documenting using pattern recognition for our sitting with plants. Vitalism, in Christ the king, herbs from the Virgin Mary how they inform western herbalism. The framework of understanding vitalism in our western herbal tradition is working from the premise of these four principles. First, 1st ‘I am alive, with a physical body as a baptized Christian, living for and within the kingdom of Christ .’ It is not merely that I am alive, or that I have a body. I am alive in Christ within the kingdom. Second, 2nd, ‘The operant principle within my body is intelligent spirit, life force, set in motion from beginingless time by God the Father.”. Third, 3rd,“ Food is our medicine and medicine is our food.” With ‘food’ being whatever enters the bounded whole of the body through the lips, mouth, eye, ear, nose, skin, sense and thought. In other words food is whatever enters inside. Food is whatever you can quantify and identify that is put in your body. The body being the greater vehicle. Food is not only what you eat. Food is the emotional regarding tone you give to things that enter your body, how you bless and give thanks for them, what self talk words you say to process events. Food is not only stuff swallowed by the mouth. Food is whatever enters the greater body. Fourthly, 4th, ‘Herbs are ordained by God and meant for our medicine, and the herbal science thereof.’ God through Jesus Christ and his mother Mary by the power of the Holy Ghost protects and guides us in our herbal science by ora et labora, prayer and work, work and prayer. Not only prayer, not only work, work and prayer. So we do not idly wait for health to happen, we use herbal science to petition God’s grace.-Paul Manski
